LIFE

I write this from a girls secure bedroom, over looking a flashing colour buddha and some pink candles. Why the mood lighting you may be thinking? well it's to calm the 'F' down. Whilst I type this, my male flat mates congregate in the living room with their other just as loud friends from home. As you can expect, being a very sober female, surrounded by drunk men who have been shitting continuously in my lovely clean loo all day… well lets just say I'm not very happy. So with their 40 beers slowly pouring down their necks, I took it upon myself to give you, the lovely readers at home, a run down of the 'tunes' they're playing.

I mean, it's definitely to be expected that at an all male pre drinks some rather questionable songs would  come on, some cliche some not so. But tonight, I have had the pleasure of listening to the likes of Daniel Bedingfield, that 1980's house track (you know the one that just says '1980's' the whole way through it, if you want me to tell you who it's by, leave right now), something that one lad referred to as 'YES MY BOOMTOWN TRACK' - think trance, think tecno,  the selfie song,  an Arctic Monkeys track (how cliche), I'm pretty sure a bit of Dolly was in there too and what ever else. Judging by this list you can imagine my brain is slightly rotting right now. I mean don't get me wrong, if I was completely off my face, rat arsed, trollied, mashed - you get the picture - this music probably, well most definitely, would have put me in the mood for the night ahead. But i'm not. Simple.  What's more annoying is that I now can't get the lyrics 'I gotta get through this' out of my head, rather ironic isn't it?  Pshht, well I just wanted to rant, will post again soon but before I go, I leave you with one of the 'tunes' so you can join me in my pain…

'COS I'D RATHER GO BLIND THEN LET YOU DOWN

It's impractical,

To go out and catch a death with a dress fit for the summer.

So she don't,
Instead she calls me up with a head full of filth.
Yes I know,
I'll never acquiesce anything I'm thinking,
But let me know when I'm needed home.

If you know who sings these lyrics then you'll be able to hazard a guess on what this post is about. If not, no worries just read on because I plan on sharing.

So, for a couple of months now, whilst sitting in my university room stressing over the dreaded upcoming third year pile of absolute shite that is about to be shovelled my way. The only thing that has - and will continue-  to keep me sane is Catfish and The Bottlemen (previously mentioned in my recent Royal Blood post). Their catchy-not tacky-but upbeat songs with poetic lyrics, sang with an edgy voice to juxtapose, is filled with the teenage angst we're all (and even if we're not teenagers any more) are feeling and craving. With songs about dealers, booze and sex, it's hard to not agree that they're representing our modern

youth - making us feel somewhat connected with our society. Connected that much so, that they start to remind you of the 'good old days' when you used to lounge about in baggy t-shirts trying not to get slightly emotional over the Kooks naive; or if you didn't do that, getting boozy down the local thinking you were the next Alex Turner (you wish). In some ways The Bottlemen are bringing back the good old style, the style of music we all miss. So with that, its understandable that this band is growing increasingly popular and at such a rapid pace. I know in my case that they're very quickly becoming one of my top 10 bands. I shouldn't admit this and it's lame I know, but I'm not ashamed to tell you that most of their lyrics may or may not have popped up as some (most) of my tweets recently.

But moving on from me completely shoving my head up their arse - metaphorically speaking of course. It's now to announce the exciting bit… The four piece, all male band who are currently signed onto Island records, have - drum roll please-  just released their first album The Balcony, which FYI came out literally days ago. With this, I took the time out to give it a listen and as expected, it's incredible. But I know what you're thinking and before you moan and probably say something like 'you always say that'; I'm not the only one that thinks this album is going to rock the charts. In fact there has been a huge hype over it's release  recently over the social media (I'm surprised you haven't seen it!) so if you don't believe me, check twitter and Facebook out for yourself.  The album and the band are definitely one to watch and by watch I mean buy tickets! ( They're currently touring the UK, again another helpful heads up from me )

So with that, I leave you with a sneak peak of the album, the album trailer in fact-

WHAT DID I SAY?

So was I right or was I right? for the last couple of months I have been absolutely going crazy and raving about this two British males- the males that brought us Royal Blood. So it comes to no surprise that they are smashing it with their sold out tour and hitting the charts souring to number one. The rock duo are a breath of fresh air to the british music scene. This is a band we've been waiting for and quite frankly I'm just relieved that people are starting to recognise talent. With house music slowly fading - very slowly - and more male bands (think the who rather than one direction) popping up such as Catfish and the bottlemen, it's a pleasure to see some serious talent in the charts. So with this said and said again, check this band out if you're still yet to do so because you will be very impressed.

But hey, whilst you're there check out NME's article on them - believe me, they say it better than I could possibly say in one small blog.

THE MAN WHO BOUGHT YOU BEDROOM EYES.

After my recent rendevoux with the gorgeous isle of wight based festival 'Bestival' it came to my attention that not many people know Natty - I mean his music, not Natty himself. The dreadlocked beauty pulling at our heartstrings with his reggae melody beats and his charming personality hit the Reggae roots stage Sunday afternoon at Bestival and with the sun shining down amongst the crowd, it was looking to me, like it was going to be a good set.  Of course amongst his set he sung the famous ' Bedroom eyes' the original, the one that I'm sure was the start to most fans love for him - I know this was the case for me. With this song playing, the crowd burst into cheers and happily sang along with him, causing Natty himself to dance with us - the atmosphere was certainly electrifying (not in the rock sense, just the sense of all the happy festival goers faces lit up).  It's hard to dislike Natty and the things he stands for, his music talks to its audience and I very forcefully suggest everyone take a listen to his music. I'm one hundred percent sure you won't be disappointed.

Below is one of my favourite tracks from him (which he sadly didn't play, tut!) - She loves me.

EVERYTHING WENT PETE TONG

So, as you can see, once again I got very lack with my blog posts. But before you judge me, let me just say it was in no fault of my own (well maybe a little bit). Basically, despite paying £4556776 for an apple mac thinking that it would actually be able to last the year, the charger only went and gone bust on me, causing me to be without blogging abilities. Well maybe slightly without, my other option was to sit in the library but no body wants to do that, do they? Moving on from this though, I am back and extremely keen to update you on my recent adventures. If you reflect back to my previous posts you will see that I mentioned Boomtown, well stay tuned to see what went on whilst I was there and keep your eyes peeled for my Bestival posts too.  Many exciting things coming up, so stick around!

SONG OF THE DAY

So I've decided to start making some reoccurring posts, you know the type of posts that happen every week and provide you with a shit load of entertainment (okay probably not that much entertainment, but some at least). So to kick off this brand new and slightly obviously post, my SONG OF THE DAY is

PEACE-  MONEY

After a couple of boring days and repeating the same tracks over and over again, I was starting to get bored of my clearly uninspiring playlist. SO, I went through this blog - I know, even I refer back to this - and it reminded me of PEACE, the headlining Dot to dot band I was telling you about earlier on this week. Well since then, I hate to admit it but this song has been on repeat and stuck in my head for a few days now. It just has such a great summer vibe, which works well with the insane weather shitty England has been giving us. Also the lyrics are simple but not in a negative way, I just mean they're  easy to remember so girls (and guys) you can whack this on in your room, dance around or jam to it in your car. Money is such a fun,  indie pop song and with this track being released as their new single, you can't help but get excited for a new album to be released. Any way, I'm going to cut this post short so I can listen to it again and jump about.. Let me know what you think. Also heres the link to PEACEs' Facebook if you want to give them a like : https://www.facebook.com/peaceforeverever

EXPLORING BOOMTOWN

Like many who buy tickets for a festival, the first thing you do is research the line up. You check out all your favourite bands, remembering the lyrics you used to sing along to and the tunes you used to hum. But you also check out the musicians you don't know - just incase you have a slot free during the festival to fill, yano' you might check them out (if they're lucky psht). Well I plan on going to Boomtown Festival at the beginning of August, like many of you,  so have checked out the line up and thought I would share with you who I think would be good to see. ( remember this is just from pre festival research and these acts are ones I've personally never heard of, so take this post lightly)

BANDS

CoCo and The Butterfields - I would not be exaggerating if I said this band were very weird. Imagine an even more old school Mumford and Sons dressed in warrior outfits and that's what - believe it or not - this band reminds me of. Personally this type of music isn't my cup of tea but from the reviews I've read, they seem to own the stage and kick ass live and their cover of 'Way I are' By Timberland is actually very impressive, this band clearly have some serious talent, they're just very bizarre. I'm thinking this might be a good one to see if you're a little wavey and a DJ just wasn't doing it for you.. Heres a link to their Facebook if you want to check the band out : https://www.facebook.com/CoCoandtheButterfields

Irie Maffia - Reggae meets soul meets jazz meets DJ mixes meets rap meets trap, this mash up of genres is exactly what Irie Maffia are giving us on a plate. Their sound is bizarre, so I will admit it takes some getting used too but once your head gets over the shock, you'll love it. In their song 'Badest' they even whack in another language…actually all their songs include different languages, just to throw us off a bit more. In the Boomtown environment, sun shining down, your more than certain to get some good festival vibes off this lot.

Lumberjack Cowboy Heartbreak Trucking Company- With a name like that, there was no way I wasn't going to research into this band, I just had to find out what they did. Well, what they do is american folk indie rock, again another band who produce a mash up of genres and successfully pull it off. When their song 'Pony' came on my thoughts automatically went to Kasabian with a mix of Kings of Leon - a weirdly good mix to have.

MORE TO COME, I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.
