JULYS ONE TO WATCH LIST

This month I've been reviewing new bands. Safe to say there has been so much talent that I've taken for granted of, simply because when attended festivals we don't explore the unknown   The issue we all put ourselves in when you attend these gigs, such as the ones I have been to recently- like Dot to Dot- is we get trapped into seeing the people we've already heard of. Like 'oh look Arctic Monkeys are playing, lets go see them, it's not like we've seen them 200000x before' come on guys, lets break this habit and experience the new, up and coming bands. Lets go to random gigs and explore all the music around us. Well this is exactly what I have been doing recently. I took a chance on some pretty great bands, some of which I'm sure you've all heard of but I want to go exaggerate how good they are to you any way (SOZ). So with out further a due, I introduce to you….

LAUREL

Firstly, fair play to this girl for putting on a great show at 2 in the morn, singing to a drunk audience who probably took her music for granted. When I saw her on stage at Nottinghams club The Bodega, a perfect back drop for her music - Think London Grammar meets Disclosure meets Diana. Her voice was absolutely incredible and unique. I was lucky enough to meet her after the show where she explains how this is her full time job, she's dedicated to this 100 percent and that she loves it. She had such an inspiring and friendly character about her, this alone makes her deserve to go far. It was very refreshing to meet someone so unaware of how good they were...  Here is her song Fire Breather (I have to admit the live version was more incredible, this video doesn't do it justice - But I suppose this is sort of a back handed compliment)

CIRCA WAVES

Now, here is some serious summer beats that will get your thirst quenching for an alcoholic beverage and your feet tapping. Circa Waves exploded onto the music scene last year with a brilliant track 'Stuck in her teeth'. Like any indie pop band, these lads(and girl - sorry!) produce such a summer, happy vibe. With their slightly gritty 'proppa english' vocals and happy back beats, they remind me of my old indie days- you know, the ones when you listened to Kooks or Bloc Party on repeat down your local park or made up terrible dance routines to The Maccabees. This is a positive though, CW have a real reminiscent quality about them. So with their album Young Chasers coming out now, I would say it is definitely worth a listen and with their UK tour in full swing, there is no excuse to not purchase a ticket. Here is the track I mentioned earlier.. Give it a listen would ya!

DARLIA

It was my flat mate that originally introduced me to this Blackpool based band a couple of months ago. I remember her trying to explain how the song 'Napalm' went and it put me off immediately. Despite this awful first impression though, I checked the band out and as to be expected (seeing as this post is about good music) I really liked them. The thing with this band is, they have some sort of nirvana vibe about them which you'll either love or hate. I personally hate it, what's the point? You're never going to be Kurt Cobain - Soz. However if you let this go and listen to the music, it's insane. Very gritty, very rocky and very grunge - imagine surf grunge meets retro. There's this vibe to their music which will draw you in and keep you interested, even if you're not particular into this genre/style of music, it's very hard to dislike Darlia.  They've got quite a few songs out now so make sure to give them all a listen ( heads up, my fave is Napalm and my worst is Dear Diary) I'll let you decide what you think of them though..

Here's three to get you started, stay tuned for tomorrows post with more new music to enjoy...
