DOT 2 DOT

Whilst many are lounged on their sofas or in the pub with a pint watching the football, i've decided to blog and aren't you all lucky. So without further a due, todays blog is a reminiscent of a little charming festival that happened back in the months of may 2014, the festival being Dot 2 Dot (The Nottingham Version).

This festival every year has always - despite the slight downfall in well known acts - been a cracking one. With tickets priced at a mere £20 and the drinks at a standard rate of what? £2 a Gaymers. You can't really moan about the acts that are on or even complain about it in general. I mean, even the venues are decent, with The Bodega, Rescue Rooms and Rock City involved you know you're in for a treat. But with competing with last years line up of The 1975, Tom Odell, Swim Deep and Lucy Rose, this line up didn't appear to be as impressive. Although, saying that and to cut this year some slack,  2014's line up of less well known bands such as Wolf Alice, Peace, Darlia and MAMS most raved about  artist Saint Raymond, still put up a good fight to become a top gig and beat last years high expectations.

To elaborate, I started of the day watching wolf alice - I can't tell a lie, they were on in the afternoon so missed quite a bit of the festival, this is due to fitting in prime drinking time beforehand (My lot are still in their fresher teen ways) - so whilst standing in the crowd, slightly tipsy, emotions were running high. Ellie Rowsell and the band walked on stage and telling the truth, her voice was absolutely incredible. Wolf Alice as a whole  had such an insane stage presence, with their voices filling the  Rock City venue. When popular song 'Blush' came on, the crowds atmosphere really emphasised the electricity in the room - to give you an example of how intense the gig was, my best friend started to cry (don't worry I did laugh) proving how good of a band they are. This was a good start to the day, I tell you that. However, sadly it went down hill from here (any of you who are kept updated with the shenanigans that
Me not in a good way, thanks £2 Gaymers
happened that festival will know what I'm about to talk about) because following Wolf Alice came Macaulay Culkins parody band The Pizza Underground. Now, I want to let you know I'm not trying to appear cool and tell you that I wasn't excited because, well I was. I was about to see the kid from home alone, the crack head, the lucky fella that got to bang Mila Kunis, the nut job - this could have potentially been life changing stuff and well it was, but not for the better.

Here's how the set pans out, Pizza Underground walk on stage, all 5 of them handing out free pizza (obviously trying to sweeten us up)to which some weird guy in a blonde wig, who supposedly was
trying to be David Bowie, started taking about pictures of the crowd - very weird. This made the crowd somewhat excited yet creeped out all at the same time, creating a bizarre atmosphere and a very uncomfortable me. With that, they began their light hearted set and I say that with a speck of empathy for them because what happens next really wasn't deserved and that is a cider can to the face. Yes. You just read that, Culkin himself received three blows to the face with full cider cans, ouch - seriously glad I'm not him. With that (and slightly to be expected) in true diva form Culkin storms off stage and the set is cut short. I can't say it wasn't to be expected - the same thing happened at their other shows. If anything they need to praise Nottingham for letting them at least play three songs, probably their highest record.

With the drama and diva antics over it was time to make way for the serious band and I'm talking about the headliner of the festival… Peace. I'm sure you all can guess that this group kicked some serious fucking ass on their set. With their psychedelic, hippy, summer, love style (much like the style of last years Swim deep) it had
the crowd jumping and swaying. Their set had the best reaction from the crowd all day (even better than Wolf Alices'), biggest reactions definitely coming from their hits Wraith and Blood shake, my personal favourites too. Jacked up on cans of cider and happiness, they really set the scene for not only the night but also your summer to come. Most excitingly they introduced us to some of their new songs set to appear on their new album later this year. Like most of their old, the new album is setting out to be something to watch with like wise good vibes, melodies and the singers gritty voice drawing you in, there's just too much to miss not owning it. Keep your eyes peeled for reviews of the album coming later - lets hope we haven't jinxed it too soon.

Other bands seen that we WILL introduce you too were :

Laurel
Darlia
April Showers
Catfish and The Bottlemen
Drowners

CHEERS.
